REBOUND – The Chris Herren Story April 11th

Posted by on Mar 23, 2017 in Past Events | Comments Off on REBOUND – The Chris Herren Story April 11th

Chris Herren, a basketball legend from Fall River, Massachusetts, dreamed of one day playing for his hometown team, the Boston Celtics. An All-American, Chris broke scoring records, was recruited by top colleges, featured in Sports Illustrated and became the focus of an acclaimed book, Fall River Dreams. Herren realized his lifelong dream of playing in the NBA when he was drafted by the Denver Nuggets in 1999 and was traded to the Boston Celtics after his rookie season, but lost it all due to substance abuse.

Alcohol and drug-free since August 1, 2008, he has refocused his life to put his sobriety and family above all else. He shares his harrowing story of abuse and recovery in his memoir, Basketball Junkie, as well as in numerous interviews throughout the Emmy nominated ESPN Films documentary Unguarded, of which he is the subject.

Please join us for an inspiring presentation featuring former NBA professional basketball player, Chris Herren. A tale of descent into addiction, a miraculous recovery and his new life mission: to share his story with audiences in the hopes of reaching at least one person and making a difference in their life.

Premiere Screening – Dying in Vein – The Opiate Generation

Posted by on Feb 17, 2017 in Past Events | Comments Off on Premiere Screening – Dying in Vein – The Opiate Generation

A brief scene in this documentary shows people using drugs.  Viewer discretion is advised.

Saturday March 4th, 2017 at 12 Noon.  The Crandell Theatre 48 Main St. Chatham, NY.

This documentary has never been screened outside the State of Utah until now. Columbia Pathways To Recovery is pleased to present to you the East Coast Premiere of Dying in Vein – The Opiate Generation.

From Academy Award Winning Producer Geralyn White Dreyfous

Directed by Jennie Mackenzie

Dying in Vein is a deeply personal exploration of opiate and heroin addiction through a cinéma vérité style that drops you directly into the lives of an addict in recovery, a couple trying to get clean, a family grieving the loss of their son and an Emergency Room Physician trying to save one patient at time. Through these stories, the film explores the contemporary belief of ‘living life pain free’ and the shame and blame that exists around addiction. The film looks at the impact of socioeconomic class on our broken treatment system, and how a group of emergency care physicians are working to save their patients from the opiate crisis.

A Q&A Discussion panel will follow the screening. Tickets are free and it is open to the public.
